Military aircraft crash: 77 dead, one seriously injured
Seventy people died and one was seriously injured in the military aircraft crash in Oum El Bouaghi (500-km east of Algiers), said the Ministry of National Defence in a statement.
President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has declared three days of national mourning as from Wednesday 12 February following the crash of a military aircraft in Oum El Bouaghi, which left dozens of people dead.
"The soldiers who died in the military aircraft crash are martyrs of duty. Therefore, we have declared three days of national mourning as from Wednesday 12 February 2014," said the President of the Republic in a message of condolence to Deputy Minister for National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah and to the families of the victims.
The Head of State also decided that Friday will be dedicated to tribute to the memory of the victims nationwide and in all the mosques of the Republic.
